Walking tour of Digbeth & Deritend There is a walking tour on Saturday mornings which looks walks through Digbeth and Deritend and includes a look at public art in the area. It is run by Jonathan Berg, who has recently completed the book Birmingham’s Public Art. Mike Skinner and Ozzy Osbourne (Robbie Jeffcott, 2022): Two iconic Birmingham musicians in a bar wall in Gibb Street. Future of Birmingham (Gent 48, 2019): Commissioned by Punch Records for their 2019 Bass Festival and depicting young black creatives. An impressive example of a Gent 48’s work with striking colours and portraiture.
Digbeth and Deritend are the original site of the hamlet of Birmingham, ultimately becoming the heart of the city of a thousand trades. Now it is a place of change and for the last twenty years or so has become a canvas for street art and graffiti artists. Here we show just a few of the works that you can see as you walk around Digbeth today.
Red Brick Market: In an old car components factory, this is the bohemian retail heart of Digbeth. Artist Ginger-Dan regularly updates the street art outside the market entrance.
